some said it is a publicity stunt.
it struck me a moment and wonder if i am caught in it. i didn't know how could i involve in this movement and how much change i can make as an individual, but a big leap takes many small steps.
i was reading this magazine - CONTAGIOUS.
research shown that 71% of British, 80% of French and 72% of US consumers believe that "business bear us as much responsibility for creating social change as government". I feel lucky that, even though I can't or i won't be a politician, I can do something in business at least, hopefully soon.
"Of course, the real answer lies in fundamental business change, international co-operation and legislation. But if it is our intention to use communication to inspire, educate and sell the notion of "green" and greener products, rather than simply give ourselves a nice warm feeling and corporate pat on the back, we certainly haven't helped ourselves."
- Rethinking "Green"
- Brand need to make environmentalism more compelling
- by Russ Lindstone(chief strategy officer at Euro RSCG, London)
my conclusion is, why not? even though you know it is a publicity stunt or public relations gimmicks. It is proven that, we have communicated effectively, as you can see the growth in figures of cities and countries involved, and world leaders responses.
Back to the root objective, i suppose the amount of involvement doesn't mean climate change is in control. Many of us think that this is beyond control. The key impact here is the awareness that counts, educating the people who are not aware. We didn't take one person and one hour to make the earth became how is it like now, and I believe when each individual changes, the world changes. Humankind is sharing the same problem and this problem only can be resolved by not just one person or one country but the entire humankind.
Prisoner's Dilemma mentality of "why sacrifice when others won't?"
google did. why don't you give a damn?

i support EARTH HOUR
Have you thought of what does it mean when everyday gets unexpectedly hotter and unexplained colder. Hottest summer reported every year, and another coldest winter ever.
Earth Hour 2007 Sydney: before & after

Earth Hour 2008 - global movement
Atlanta

if you have missed the previous one. you could sign up for Earth Hour 2009 to make it even bigger ( i wish Las Vegas can switch off their lights *finger crossed* ) OR you can make earth hour everyday - Simple things like turning off appliances while not in use and switching your light globes to energy efficient bulbs, will all help us reach our goal of reducing our annual emissions by 5%. Even something as simple as turning out lights when you’re not in a room and switching to cleaner sources of electricity like “green power”, make a big difference.
Measure the environmental impact of your lifestyle in facebook. Driving, flights, diet, home. I got a total of 7.04 tons CO2/year. :(
always afraid that will be too late?

for people who care
An Inconvenient Truth
I was listening to this interview from a radio station to the first Asian woman to reach the South Pole in April 2004, Datin Paduka Sharifah Mazlina. It tempted me to work harder for protecting the earth from global warming. She said that the consequences of global warming could be how it looks like in the scenes from the movie - The Day After Tomorrow. According to her, South Pole is supposed to be a big piece of ice err.. thick snow ground 2-3 km thickness (something like that), and she actually saw them broke into an open water as big as Johor Straits.
The ignorant people who nicely live in this Urban Heat Island, can't hear the ice are cracking and the pieces of iceberg are poking Australia and New Zealand. Please wake up because we have ways start contributing, this is what we can do. Hopefully I can find more ways.

{ my first quake experience }
In the early 9th day in Wanganui, we were having a chit chat session around 1am morning. QUAKE happened. I did not know that was a quake until it took 5 seconds to end and my mates said it was a minor quake. We were stoned at that moment, I was hesitating whether should I scream or run or what, but I did not dare to make a move.
Nothing was being moved either from the wall or anywhere, we were just shocked, and it was our first time experience in life. Quite surprised and abit scared, but after all we cracked that into jokes again, because all of our face expression were funny.

was that a funny quake, mate ?

{ all we have for christmas }

The earth is celebrating this day. Coal burning, moving water to the energy generators for lights, other than lights, lights as well for christmas decoration. What do we have for christmas in malaysia that is just next to the equator?
Falling snow, snow man, chimney, santa claus, carol, turkey, sleigh, chocolates from neighbours? a white christmas in the area that experience quickest rates of sunrise and sunset in the world? snow that won't melt, because they are cotton ball, snow man that made by styrofoam, factories chimneys with poisonous chemical effects smokes.
It's holiday. It's a worldwide celebration, some people celebrate becuase the nations are celebrating. Including me may be. People told us that we have been celebrating all these big days are for the typical annual largest economics stimulus. It's true, but we are happy and it's almost the only best reason plus best timing for us to play with the seldom-contact or busy-working friends.
All we have for christmas is the never ending sunshine and rain, man made shinny neon lights, blinking fairy lights, tinsel balls, candy cane, stockings, alcohol, fast and loud music, presents that we wished for or didn't wish for, old friends and new friends, and what else? night life, parties and clubbing sessions all over the place. It's a tropicana fruit punch christmas here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
merry christmas, however it is, please don't drunk driving.

{ things that i hate people do in the elevator }
It has been a tired day. I wish I can just get back home as soon as possible and take a good rest. Before all that I wish, I have to prepare myself to go through something or may be nothing first. THE ELEVATOR. No one can imagine what can people do in the elevator. 2 things that I MOST HATE people do in the elevator. Here goes:
FIRST: SMOKING. Can't they just hold on the addiction for a few seconds more to get out of the elevator and puff as much as they like? fine... When I go into the elevator and no one's in it, but smokes are flying nicely there, is what I HATE MOST, because I can stare at NO ONE else. This is even making me crazier + mad + emotional.
SECOND: SPITTING. That is so nasty when there is one patch of saliva on the elevator floor. I don't know that was from what kind of sickness or whatever patient and imagine those micro nano picro bacteria / virus is hopping everywhere all over the elevator. I have to hold my breathe for at least 15 seconds ( *usually I give up at the 6th-8th second* ), so that it reaches 10th floor.
Please kindly be more considerate. okay?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is something that I really want to say.

{ feel sick... }
Haze has never gone, when human take things for granted. Human - never learnt their lessons... Every morning, I wake up from the bed, I am so afraid of looking out from the window, as there might be a tragedy floating in the sky - HAZE.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When will it ends? - i am asking human being out there. Whenever i see something burning, smokes from some places i pass by everyday, i am so helpless, only praying in my heart that " please stop the burning action ".
